Punkens ”Gudfader” har varit aktiv inom musiken sedan 1963 och har inga planer på att sluta. Under sin tid i bandet The Stooges lärde han känna David Bowie som efter att bandet splittrades ska ha övertalat Iggy att fortsätta med en egen solokärriär. Under solokärriären släppte han den stora hiten ”The Passager”, där Bowie medverkar som sångare i refrängen, vilket anses som en av hans absolut mest välkända låtar.
